
During the Middle Ordovician (around 467 million years ago), Earth was bombarded with meteorites and probably had rings similar to Saturn due to the breakdown of a large asteroid.
In this artwork, the meteorite lit the night sky, outshining the ring system in the background.
In the foreground, an Isotelus trilobite, an orthocone nautiloid, and scattered brachiopods were washed ashore.
